Scroll down to the link and to make your objection NOW!

Deadline to object extended by Council to August 2nd!

Ever vigilant since development of Kingswood Golf course was shelved, the Save Kingswood Group inc and the DVCA have identified another threat to Dingley Village.

A threat to change Village character and the lifestyle we enjoy, that could also influence future decisions on Saving Kingswood.

Dingley Village residents - protest to stop this latest threat!

The background:

There are two ways State Government can accomodate fitting more people into Melbourne, either

(A) Create new master-planned towns and businesses outside Melbourne, on vacant land. There are many advantages, including residents enjoying short travel of just 10 to 20 minutes to their workplace. or

(B) Cram in high density all over Melbourne, with 3, 4 or more storeys in place of leafy suburbs with single dwellings.

Despite (B) causing much angst to existing residents, state government have insisted on that "sardines" plan.

Please don't criticise Council. They are obliged to implement this Government ideology and they are trying to do it with the least impact. Otherwise Government said they would do the zonings themselves.

Governments are imposing high density on Melbourne's leafy suburbs, to accomodate increasing populations, instead of creating new Masterplanned Suburbs beyond the existing suburbs.
This "pressure-cooker" high-density is almost universally condemned by residents of Melbourne's suburbs.

Other more highly populated countries still preserve individual homes and gardens.

Its a given that along with all the problems and loss of Village character higher density suburbs ideology brings, there is always hopelessly way too little provision for parking and traffic.

The Government's basis for cramming us in is accommodated in the Kingston document "Kingston Housing Strategy & Neighbourhood Character Study".

"The Victorian Government estimates Melbourne will grow to 7.9 million people by 2051" and states:
"Our city can’t keep sprawling outwards"

We reply: YES IT CAN!

The threat to Dingley Village Character in the document:

Map Key: Incremental change areas

This most inappropriate area for at least three storeys will affect any future attempt to develop on the Kingswood Golf Course park.

It will lead to a plan to have 3 storeys around the boundary and higher inside the park.

Even if only the grey area is developed, it would overshadow the privacy and light of existing dwellings and become precedent!

This overdevelopment is also shown along Centre Dandenong road. Once some are in place, developers will say "but it's already allowed along Centre Dandenong road, and before you know it the dominos will fall, with high density entrenched everywhere.
We don't want ANY 3 storey "Incremental Change Areas!"

Transitional Change Area
Dingley Village is named as a "Transitional" Change Area.

However Council has acknowledged that's a mistake, as Dingley Village is nowhere near a railway station or Smart Bus route.

If we remind council of the mistake, at least that zoning will be rescinded.
"infill development encouraged"

Activity Centre

Then later our Village is shown as a Major Activity Centre, which cannot be correct, considering in peak hour traffic we are one hour away from a train station...

Traffic in Centre Dandenong road

Say NO!
To Kingston's Vision ...

"Medium and HIGH density housing will be located in walkable catchments around public transport networks and activity centres."

How can Melbourne suburbs be spared the appalling overdevelopment being thrust on residents?
The High density development being imposed on Melbourne suburbs and their dismayed populace including Kingston, is based on flawed ideology.

If such “pressure cooker” thinking existed 200 years ago, towns like Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat would never have existed.

A belief that we need to cram more in, rather than developing masterplanned towns on the fringes - the outer ring of Melbourne and beyond, with new housing estates, business and industry, so people can travel to work in 10 to 20 minutes.

This alleviates the intense pressure on existing suburbs and freeways, along with reduced pollution and a host of other advantages.
